Smoking Cessation Techniques
Our program studies how lasering meridian and acupuncture points help smokers quit by addressing three different issues of cessation.
First, we treat points for the addiction to nicotine, to help block the body's need for that drug; second, we treat diet points to help control appetite, avoiding excessive weight gain; and third, we treat stress and relaxation points thereby alleviating withdrawal symptoms normally experienced by those trying to stop smoking on their own. These symptoms include irritability, short-temperedness, depression, etc. Clients often report an alteration to the way cigarettes smell and taste.
Within 20 minutes of treatment clients report the nicotine craving is gone and the taste and smell of even second-hand smoke becomes nauseating.
Cold Laser Therapy
This is an FDA approved, medical therapy for use on a limited number of pain related conditions and is not approved for general use. All laser therapy devices used for smoking cessations are considered investigational and must adhere to FDA rules in section 505 & 520 if they are to be used in studies for new indications; like smoking cessation.

Wavelengths
Why 904nm laser? Diverse tissue and cell types in the body all have their own unique light absorption characteristics or chromophores; that is, each type of tissue will absorb light at specific wavelengths and not all wavelengths. the most ideal wavelength for smoking cessation studies is 904nm. IRB (Industrial Review Board)
Do I need an IRB? YES.
Cold Laser Therapy has not been approved by the FDA to help people quit. Therefore, every smoking study must be performed under FDA rules and regulations and require an IRB. An Industrial Review Board (IRB) is an appropriately constituted group that has been formally designated to review and monitor medical device research involving human subjects. In accordance with FDA regulations, an IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in (to secure approval), or disapprove research. This group review serves an important role in the protection of the rights and welfare of human research subjects.
The purpose of IRB review is to assure, both in advance and by periodic review, that appropriate steps are taken to protect the rights and welfare of humans participating as subjects in the research. To accomplish this purpose, IRBs use a group process to review research protocols and related materials (e.g., informed consent documents and investigator brochures) to ensure protection of the rights and welfare of human subjects of research.
We assist you in obtaining their IRB approval. We submit forms to obtain approval on your behalf. Additional treatment facilities can be submitted for an additional fee.
If you wish to perform smoking cessations at your facility you MUST obtain IRB approval that meets the FDA requirements. Failure to do so may result in heavy fines and possible jail sentence.
Our IRB approvals meet the FDA requirements for Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) and the use of NSR devices on human clients.
